This video is about how to connect to an on-premise Oracle server in Tableau Desktop and schedule a bridge extract refresh in Tableau Cloud.

The video starts with an introduction to the topic and then goes over the steps on how to connect to Oracle in Tableau Desktop. The steps are as follows:

  1. Open Tableau Desktop and click on the Oracle connector from the list of data sources in the connect pane.
  2. Enter the server name and connection information as needed.
  3. Drag your desired tables to the workspace and select the extract radio button on the upper right of Tableau Desktop.
  4. Select sheet 1 to generate and save the extract locally.
  5. Once you’re ready to publish your data source to Tableau Cloud, go to Server in the top menu bar and select Publish Data Source.
  6. In the publish window, choose the project where you want to publish your data source.
  7. Select the option Update workbook to use the published data source when you are publishing this.
  8. Select the Edit option for authentication and ensure to embed credentials for the data source if they’re used and to allow refresh access if the option is available.
  9. Select Publish.
  10. After publishing, Tableau Cloud will appear with the published data source page.
  11. Select the Schedule window to select your desired extract refresh schedule.
  12. Select your desired schedule and click Create.

The video ends with a pro tip for some common Bridge errors you may experience and how to install Tableau Bridge.
